3 Things to Ask A Wedding Photographer Before Booking

Sometimes when you’re shuffling through a ton of photographers it can be a bit overwhelming narrowing down who might be the best fit.  With so many amazing photographers out there, it’s hard to make a decision just based on pretty images. Here are a few questions that we believe are the most helpful in deciding who may be the best fit for you.

1. Do you offer digitals? What about prints?

This varies greatly among photographers. Some prefer to “shoot and share,” meaning they shoot the wedding and at the end of the day you are left with a link to a gallery of all the images. Others offer a viewing gallery that you can only select from to have images printed through them. It’s important to know what your end result will be before assuming anything.

Our answer: We offer both!

Until recently, we have always just been shoot and share photographers. For us it has always seemed like the easiest method and we were able to provide digital images to our clients that they could share anywhere and have printed anywhere with no problems.

And then we realized the problem with this. Couples are so exhausted after planning a wedding for months that the last thing they want to do is go through the hassle of ordering pictures on their own! We’ve had so many clients ask us for their link again serval months after their wedding because they forgot to download them!  Photography is a huge investments and it was breaking our hearts to think that couples weren’t getting the most out of their end result.

That’s when we realized we were doing a disservice to our clients by only offering digitals. We want our clients to end their experience with us with digitals AND tangible items. Whether that be prints for your wall, or an album (which is my favorite artwork to create), we want our couples to have something that can be passed down to the next generation.

2. Can you walk me through the wedding day through your eyes?

This will help you get a better idea of what to expect on the wedding day. Some photographers are very vocal with what they need and will take action when it’s needed. Others will rely on a coordinator to make decisions in the heat of the moment.

Our answer: We’re the take action type. Of course, we will take advise from a coordinator and are perfectly capable of going with the flow, but sometimes there are parts of the day when a decision needs to be made right then and there. We know how precious each moment of your wedding day is and want to make sure we utilize your time to keep your day stress free. So if there’s rain all day on your wedding day, we are going to be the ones to figure out how to still capture amazing pictures for you. 🙂

3. Can we meet in person before deciding?

Your wedding photographer is with you for 8+ hours on the most important day of your life. It’s probably a good idea to make sure you like their personality. Meeting for coffee will allow a little time to get know each other better and breaks down the formal barrier of email.

Our answer: OF COURSE! Honestly, I don’t know any photographer that wouldn’t be up for chatting in person with couples. It helps everyone feel more at ease when you can check out each other’s vibes and make sure everyone is on the same page.

These three questions will help you decide which photographer is the best fit for you.  Comment below with some of the most important questions you’ve used to narrow down selections in your wedding planning process!

with love,
